After he first considered becoming a butcher or painter, Wim Hazelaar started in the flower business at age 15. He started with delivering flowers on his bicycle. Soon Wim Hazelaar worked for different flower shops in the neighbourhood. However, the real passion for flower design started when he met the charismatic Gerard Alberts. He was a teacher at the trade school in Enschede and had a famous shop in Deventer. While working here, Wim became acquainted with large flower decorations and flower shows. Due to his drive and talent Wim was soon working for the best flower shops in the Netherlands. He changed jobs often in order to get acquainted to as much techniques and styles as possible. As an artist his own work and style developed late seventies while he was working for Flora flower design in Zwolle. Together with close colleagues he got the freedom to compete in flower parades throughout the country. Many of the highest prices went to Zwolle in this period. In the shop Wim had 'card blange' in making his progressive stile in flower design and in shop- and window presentation. He continued this success with opening his own shop. He focussed more on competitions and the design of flower stands. In 1982 he became Interflora world champion flower design in Hamburg. Ever since Wim Hazelaar travels the world to show his skill, leaving a permanent mark in the worlds flower design.
